We celebrate our members’ attendance milestones, and we recently had a member named Lauren, pictured here upside down to celebrate the event, who just attended her 1000th class… which is pretty awesome. One thousand hours spent working on skills, strength, fitness, mental toughness, and (hopefully!) having fun.
Nobody starts out on their fitness journey thinking that they will devote hundreds or thousands of hours to the pursuit – it just happens as you keep coming back, and keep putting in the work.
Picture your future self – you’ve already started your fitness journey…
Here’s a scenario for you, if you’re thinking about getting started on fitness.
Picture yourself six, twelve, eighteen months in the future. You were a little anxious about starting, but you got more comfortable in a few weeks. You struggled to make your fitness a priority and to protect your "me time", but it gradually got easier.
A couple of months in, you started to build some momentum. You started seeing changes in your strength, fitness, and how your clothes fit. You had (and still have) more energy for your daily activities. The memory of what you felt like before you started is fading, but you know that you don’t want to go back there.
You’re definitely no Olympian, but you feel more confident in your physical abilities, and you worry less and less about not being able to do physical things. You know your way around the gym by now, and your technique is steadily improving. You have made some new gym friends, and you look forward to your workouts. The burpees still aren’t your favourite yet, but you at least begrudgingly say hi when you pass them in the street.
You think about how you were unsure about starting this journey, and how it really wasn’t as intimidating as your brain was anticipating. Your coaches were helpful, and your classmates were not angry workout ogres.
This is not a pipe dream. We’ve helped many, many members through this process over the years, and it could be yours too. None of our members started out their journey expecting to still be doing CrossFit a decade later – but here some of them are, 10+ years later and still thriving.
The start of Lauren’s 1000-class fitness journey
Let’s go back to Lauren’s story. She started at our gym back in 2014. She had young kids then, and she often brought them to the gym with her while she worked out. We’ve helped her after her hip replacement, and other life hiccups along the way. Throughout it all though, she just kept showing up. She made her workouts a priority because she knew that she’d feel better afterward.
We asked Lauren what’s kept her going all these years, and she said, "I’ve learned to just keep going, remember to breathe and that what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger lol! Trust the process, keep showing up and have fun along the way."
So as Lauren suggests… just take it one day at a time and focus on the basics. Show up consistently and put in the work. Eat reasonably well, when you’re ready to make changes to your nutrition. Defend your scheduled gym times.
Day by day, week by week, you’ll inch yourself closer to the scenario we’ve just imagined together. It IS possible, and we’d love to get you started. Click here to chat with a coach, and we’ll get the ball rolling.
(p.s. No, you don’t have to do a handstand for your 1000th class photo. But maybe you’ll want to!)
